I am a freelance camera assistant. I used to be a grip, but I realized I could never succeed as a grip because I wasn't a 400 pound alcoholic. I lived in New York for five years, and then moved out to Queens. I was not impressed with the city. I recently just moved to downtown Toronto and while I'm still not impressed, it is decidedly much more convenient for me. In my observations, the film industry is the equivalent of a small incestuous town where everybody has slept with each others' wife, sister, and mother and where gossip and rumors linger in the air like a bad fart. As such, I'm pretty tired of the 'film dating scene' (get it?) and am looking to meet some new and refreshing people. My work week averages about 80-90 hours, so I generally have no time to have a social life except on set. I don't think many people can grasp just how exhausting working in the film industry is. Both physically and emotionally. But I wouldn't have it any other way! I wish there was a less shameful way to meet new people.
